The Blockheads Strategy Guide, Tips and Tricks

The Blockheads [Free] is a 2D Minecraft inspired game where instead of needing to know recipes and being able to craft everything in one location, there are many different kinds of workbenches, each with a handful of items they can craft. The crafting interface lists what is required and describes what the crafted item can do. This creates a technology tree of sorts, easing the player into the game, and slowly making more advanced items available.

Night is falling and your blockhead is freezing. You haven't yet made shelter and your campfire has gone out. All you have is a spade, some wood and a few sticks. You have only minutes before exhaustion hits. Do you create a bed, dig a cave or refuel your fire? What will you do?

Control your blockheads in a vast randomly generated world with oceans, mountains, forests, deserts and deep underground caves. Keep an eye on their needs - give them sleep, feed them, create clothing and shelter - and they'll be happier, quicker and more productive. Craft tools with the resources they find, and they'll be able to work even faster and find more resources. Upgrade workbenches and unlock more advanced items to craft. Discover precious stones and metals deep underground, or rare plants and animals on the surface. Craft a boat and sail across the oceans. Make fur clothing and venture to the North Pole. Pick coconuts at a tropical beach. Cook meat at a campfire. Build a marble palace. Paint the walls. Plant an orchard. Ride a donkey!

Explore, mine, craft and build in this giant and detailed sandbox game for iOS. Navigate huge simulated worlds thousands of blocks wide with a full temperature and climate system, seasons, an equator, and frozen poles. Explore complex cave systems and flowing water, and survive deserts and snowy mountain tops.

Craft baskets
Baskets allow you to carry more stuff. Before you can craft baskets you need 1 dirt and 1 stick to create a craft bench from the workbench. Baskets can then be crafted using 5 sticks from the craft bench.

Infinite Inventory
Baskets and chests can contain baskets and chests, so you effectively have an infinite inventory.

However you can only see the contents of a basket when it is in one of the primary slots, and you can only see the contents of chests when they are placed in the world. You could move whatever is in that slot into another basket though.

Ride donkey
You can ride a donkey using the carrot on a stick item which can be crafted from a level 2 craft bench.

Grow Trees
You can plant any fruit or seed or pine cones in dirt and they'll slowly grow over time

Health
Health goes down for two reasons, either hunger or exhaustion from not sleeping. If you click on the picture of your guy at the top of the screen it will bring up a more detailed graph, with more individual bars and will tell you how your blockhead is feeling. You can restore health by sleeping and/or eating.

Breeding Donkeys
Carrot plants have a certain amount of food available that replenishes over time. Every time a donkey walks past, it takes some of this food, and if it gets plenty, eventually it has a baby. So short answer: lots of carrot plants = lots of donkeys

Harvesting flax from the flax plants to make linen clothes.

Making Clothes
Flax is needed to make linen and linen is needed to make clothes for your blockhead. You can harvest flax from the flax plant by hacking at it with a machete. In addition to 2 pieces of flax you also get one flax seed from each flax plant. If it's flowering you can get 3 seeds if you hack the flower off first You can repeat the process all over again by planting the flax seed in the dirt and waiting for the flax plant to grow (by meditating) before hacking at it again with a machete.

Meditation
When your blockhead finishes meditating, you can get random items like fruits, seeds, ingots, dyes and precious minerals like diamond and ruby.

Hat of Warm
The Hat of Warm can be found on the North Pole. The hat keeps you warm in cold weather.

Boots of Speed
The Boots of Speed can found on the South Pole. The boots make you run faster.

Sunrise Hat of Fullness
The Sunrise Hat of Fullness can be found on the East Equator. It completely fills the wearer and the bars only go down if it is removed.

Found the Sunset Skirt of Happiness on top of a pole!
Sunset Skirt of Happiness
The Sunset Skirt of Happiness can be found on the West Equator. It keeps your happiness at 50% minimum (meaning your happiness will not drop below 50%, very very useful item) even if you're injured, starving or exhausted.

Oil
Use a presser to make oil from sunflower and flax seeds.

  1. I've been trying to build a house, but I can't get the back wall to fill in. Any tips?

  2. If you use dirt, stone or any type of item other than wood, the back walls would automatically fill in :)

  3. I reach East Equator but I didn't see any Hat of Fullness in my inventory.
There is something at the top of the pole at East Equator, but I cannot climb up. Any advice? Thanks!

    1. Dig up some dirt using a shovel and then stack the dirt around 15-20 block high to reach the hat on top of the pole :)

  4. Thanks, I actually went around the "globe" back to starting point and back East again. This time, I brought along many ladders to stack up beside the pole.

However, I'm stuck trying to get to the centre of the earth as I ran out of lanterns and clay. :(

    1. And I couldn't find my way back as even my way in is pitch dark after I've removed those lanterns.
Any use of those portals like teleporting myself out of there?

    2. You can still get back to the surface. Just swipe upwards until you get to the surface and click on any object there to get your blockhead climbing up pronto!

  6. Make sure you craft a fur coat and boots and have trousers and a hat. stock up on food and get a fire. Taking plenty of wood and sticks also helps. A boat is also essential.

The clothing keeps you warm or you will freeze very quickly using up all you health, energy and as a consequence your food.

The boat helps you cross the oceans quickly and without using too much energy (and food). In the latest version (1.2) you will not be able to swim oceans as there are sharks.

The wood is good for building cabins (a door or trapdoor helps keep cold out if you have space in your baskets or chests). This helps keeps you warm.

  7. Sorry I missed another vital part. The fire is for light and warmth when you are in your cabin which keeps health and environment bars high.
