If you spend any time on the Facebooks, then you're familiar with social games like FarmVille and Mafia Wars. They are shallow, silly, and complete wastes of time – which is why people just love them. We Rule, ngmoco's upcoming cross between a real-time strategy game and a social app, builds on the base of these little entertainments in hopes of creating something better.

You start out with a very small town and not much money. The ultimate goal is to grow your town into a bustling metro and link it to cities created by your friends on their iPhones and iPads. (Yep, ngmoco has confirmed that an iPad edition of We Rule is in the works.) To gain money, you perform small jobs like growing crops or producing goods. To create these essentials, you erect buildings in your town like bakeries and tailors. Over time, you gain gold and experience, which in turn unlocks new buildings that present you with new commerce and social opportunities. Also, the buildings in your town affect the look of the populace. If you build a school, you start to see little student bobbling around. Building a tailor introduces a seamstress to the population.

Now, working within your own borders will only get you so far. We Rule really picks up the pace when you enter a network of cities created by your friends and can trade goods back and forth, performing jobs or providing needed services. You may go into a neighboring town to discover they have a Magictorium, which specializes in producing wooden brooms. You could get a pretty penny for those back home. So, you place an order and then your friend gets a note that you want to get your mitts on some brooms. They create the goods and the transaction is complete. Everybody benefits from gold and experience. {source: IGN}
